SkillWise Connect

SkillWise has since 2010 been reaching out to young people in towns and villages in South Africa that have generally been regarded as beyond the scope of technology-based learning solutions. The delivery model was centre-based, so that students could overcome their initial reservations about using computers within a community environment

Central to the concept is the SkillWise training platform, which uses established pedagogical principles and provides a comprehensive training experience.

Taking care of assessments, both for tutorial and scoring purposes is all done by the computer. The ability of the student to repeat assessments as many times as they need in order to reach the recommended score of 80% is a key component of efficacy-based learning. And in order to achieve a transfer of power from an external ‘expert/trainer’ to the individual, the computer plays a low-key role, leaving the choice up to the student.

Managing a group of self-motivating learners has been an area of growing understanding and experience. Students love to succeed their own expectations and we love to see it happening!

So how does it work in practice?

We have a list of centres operating around South Africa. If you would like to join a centre and do the training, fill out our contact form below, and we will put you in touch.

If you see a business opportumity and would like to open your own centre, fill out our contact form and choose ‘Open a Centre’ to become part of our new centre program.

We will introduce you to the program and request that you actually complete it in order to fully understand how it works. SkillWise then provides guidance in selecting a possible location for the centre, using data from Facebook marketing to estimate the number of potential students within a taxi ride from the proposed centre. Then you search for a venue and build a business plan. Support abd guidance come from both SkillWise and the existing Centre owners via a regular Community of Practice online meeting.

Eventually, once all the pieces are in place, an opening date is chosen and Facebook Marketing begins two weeks before opening date. This is to ensure that students will have signed up by the time the doors open. New owners are guided to manage their market and to use special offers/promotions to ensure maximum capacity in their centres.
